As a professional/ self-employed Singer, would it be wise to have myself be under the LLC bracket?

I ask because I realize that I'm a business and that I want "me as a business" to be separate from "me the family man". Thus if something wrong were to happen to me as a business, I the family man and my family would be safe. IS WHAT I'M THINKING MAKING SENSE? OR AM I CHOOSING THE WRONG TAX BRACKET? Please help...
