Why do men put there hands on women when they wont do for themselves?

I was in a long term relationship and he was not able to live with me and my parents. I helped him when he was hungry, if he needed clean clothes, when I had a car I took him to doctor appointments. As soon as the car broke down and I was saving my money why would he come and beat me up, take my purse, break my eye gles and break my cell phone into pieces. I have been the only person here in Harvey helping him and this is what I get.
