Guys is this illegal?

So I live in New York City and I have an airsoft gun (a gun that shoots plastic ) but according to the laws, any projectile-firing instrument is deemed a firearm. Yet there is a paintball arena 10 min. away from my house. Mmmm... Loop holes much? I'm wondering if I could bring it out to an isolated area and have an airsoft war with my friends.
