I lived with roommates about 3 years ago. and after moving out they stayed and later got evicted. Cont. below?

I lived with roommates about 3 years ago. We lived together for about 6 months and I then moved out to get my own place. After I moved out my previous roommates stopped paying rent and about 5 months later got an eviction for late payment/no payment. When I moved in with them I never signed a lease with the office but did request to be placed on the lease but the office never contacted me to come in to sign a lease. After the got evicted my name was attached to there mess and I just found out a few months ago that there is an eviction on my credit report. I had moved out from this place and lost all contact with the previous roommates so they screwed me. How do I fix this mess
